Why Marriages Fail - Three Reasons

The issue of why divorce occurs is vast and complex. Marriage for a couple is a big life change for both parties. Two different individuals have to learn to see beyond their own particular needs and think about what's best for them as a couple.

If they fail at this, friction is inevitable and a break up is very possible. This article looks at three common reasons why divorce occurs.

1.) Infidelity ' A cheating spouse causes great pain. The victim feels a profound sense of betrayal and can never fully trust his or her partner again.

If the person doesn't demand an immediate divorce, mistrust and doubt in the relationship can lead to an eventual breakdown of the marriage. Determining why the infidelity happened and whether the marriage should be saved will require the services of a marriage counselor.

2.) Money ' Money and it's management is a great source of stress on almost everyone at some point in their lives. Married people aren't the only ones that must shoulder this burden. The management and use of money is fertile ground for conflict in a marriage.

Marriage and raising children is costly. It's common for married people with kids to be in a lot of debt. Big differences in attitude about money and its management can be the last straw that breaks a marriage.

3.) Exaggerated expectations ' Often people have these ridiculous and over romanticized notions of the ideal mate and of the ideal marriage. These fantasy marriages and mates are the myths of our culture delivered to us daily by the mass media.

People that pursue these idealized unions are in reality, self absorbed. They possess a self centered consumer mind set in which the quest for a mate is akin to visiting a mall to shop for the perfect commodity.

One must have the ability to escape the confines of one's self and have the ability to compromise and truly care about the needs of the other.
